Ever since I started blogging about the Kumbha Mela and related topics about it, it has been a fascinating experience and I am surprised about the fact that I hardly know anything about the various Kumbha Mela that happens in India.

I read today that there is a special Kumbha Mela being held for the Adivasi’s at a place called Palamu in India beginning on the February 11th. The Mela is attended by an average 10,000 to 12,000 people everyday. This tribal congregation is said was first started by Lok Sabha MP Inder Singh Namdhari in the mid-90s, at time of undivided Bihar. A full length statue of Raja Medini Rai, in whose name Daltonganj has been christened as Medininagar was also installed.

As always associated with huge crowd gatherings security becomes a prime concern and the Mela at Palamu takes special significance as it is held at a tri-section on the National Highway connecting Daltonganj to Ranchi. Vehicular traffic on this highway is believe to be huge and diversions often cause gridlocks. Then we have the instances of the tribals just spilling over roads and the police officials are drawing strict measures to save them from coming under the wheels of passing by traffic.

The Bihar has the Naxal point of view concern as well and then hillocks in the vicinity of the Mela will have to be sanitized and observation posts installed to ensure safety of the participating crowds which is likely to include Ministers, MP and MLA’s.

With all world media attention diverting towards Haridwar, this exclusive Mela for the tribals makes its mark on the pages of history.

More info please

good article, wanted to know more about this tribal kumbha mela, how often does it take place? which river for bathing, whats the astronomical/astrological significance? did you know that there are NO VIPs in the haridwar kumbha mela or any of the regular kumbha mela, the only VIP found are the naga sadhus, so who are the vips at the tribal kumbha???

FYI - we have been researching on the total 12 kumbha melas that are supposed to happen based on the astrological data.we have the regular four in allahabad, haridwar, nasik ujjain, we are on the on the look out for the other eight apart from the regular four - Kumbhakonam in Tamil Nadu  and Passua in Germany seem to qualify. if you find more info on this topic please share
